And that means that NaNoWriMo has begun!
Are you writing? How you feeling about your story so far?
I may be foolish for saying so, but so far, I’m doing really well! I have around 4200 words (rounding), and I have yet to feel stalled at all. Some of that is thanks to the NaNoWriMo sprints, there were some excellent prompts in this afternoons virtual write-in. Though I confess I got hooked on one or two and ended up pausing the video so I could carry on with them, thus missing nearly all of the write-in. Since inspiration is the point, I think that’s just fantastic.
A lot of my starting success is actually due to the story itself.
This story has been on my mind and pecking at my heels for a long while now… Since August, if my journal is to be trusted. It’s a story that speaks clearly and comes in bursts and stutters.
That’s how I write though. I tend to dive right in, regardless of plot line, sequence of events, or anything else. I’ve never been much of a planner, and even when I do have plans (which I do) I am rarely able to fill them chronologically. And this one is no different than any other.
This tale is about a girl named Irma. Irma is caught one night in a ghastly plan by a strange and malevolent Magician. The Magician has worked tirelessly on a carousel, in which he has made a box of immense power. He lures Irma to the carousel, intent on using her as a sacrifice to tear open a portal between the real, living world and somewhere else entirely. His plans fail, and Irma is displaced. Not really dead, but left without a physical form, she exists alongside the real and physical world, but is unable to move beyond it. With his plans thwarted and Irma haunting the carousel, he is unable to complete his work, but still he lurks near. Watching her as she haunts the carousel, and tries to collect friends to keep her company…
Now, my summaries may leave much to be desired, but the story itself has developed beautifully. A lovely tale about an odd circumstance, terrible magic, and horrors unfolding.
If you want to be NaNo buddies, feel free to add me! Though I hope to keep posting here as well.
And please, if your feeling generous, do consider donating to help me go to the NaNoWriMo Night of Writing Dangerously. It would mean the world to me, and everyone who donates will get a unique story/otherwise tale from me.
Thanks, and good luck!
